Director, Career Services
Cathy Keates, MA (Counselling Psychology) has worked with career centres at several Canadian universities, joining York University’s career centre in 1999. While there she redesigned the service delivery model, created the career counselling service, and expanded online services such as chats, webinars, and the NACE award-winning Career Cyberguide.
As a consultant, Cathy has worked with several university student services, supporting planning and evaluation practices. She coordinated the creation of Career Centre Evaluation: A Practitioner Guide, which was recognized with an Outstanding Achievement award from the Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers (CACEE).
As Director of Career Services at Queen’s University, Cathy has both transformed the internal workings of the office towards greater efficiencies and effectiveness, and freed capacity to deliver innovative programming, such as the Major Maps, a set of 44 degree-specific integrated planning tools for students (a CACEE 2015 Award winner) and It All Adds Up, a social media based campaign that reached 1100 students across 20 different Ontario career centres in 2015-16.
A huge fan of clarity, collaboration, and charts, Cathy will share strategies for designing and maintaining internal processes that ensure accountability, efficiency, and space for creativity.
